The season may be all but over but Hougang United are on fire putting four goals past a hapless Geylang side that tried, but ultimately failed, to seriously breach the strong Hougang defence. 4-1 to Hougang.
The last S-League game of the 2012 season for Hougang United resulted in a 0-0 draw. Both sides had their chances, and associated near misses. Superb saves by keeper Fadhil Salim earned Hougang the one point.
29 September 2012. One of the best matches this season. The Hougang midfield controlled the play with many attempts on goal. The game ended 2-2 but Hougang could, and should, have won (unless you're an SAF supporter).
Cup games can be cruel, and this one certainly was. In a qualifier for the quarter-finals of the COE Challenge Cup (U-16) 2013, right up until the 85th minute it looked like Hougang were going through... then Woodlands went and equalised.
A 0-0 draw from two teams that (tried to but) could not score. To their credit, both teams attempted attractive football (rather than punt and run) but could not create enough real chances to make a difference.
An entertaining S-League game that saw Hougang scoring first but then having a tough time preventing DPMM from equalising and, in the second half, scoring two more. Hougang had chances but it was not to be.
RHB Singapore Cup 2013, quarter-final, second-leg: Hougang won the first-leg 2-0; Balestier won this second-leg 2-0. Seems fair... except for the penalty shootout which, naturally, was not fair; not that Balestier would agree as they progress to the semi-final.
Despite this 2013 StarHub League Cup, Plate, semi-final being played in a haze-induced PSI level rated as 'unhealthy', both teams played to win. With a 1-1 final score, the game went straight to kicks from the penalty mark; with Harimau the more fortunate.
A very entertaining game of football, characterised by fast attacking play. Warriors took the lead; Hougang equalised and then went 2-1 up before the break. Even after Warriors themselves equalised, both teams kept fighting for the winner right up to the final whistle. The final result: 2-2.
The first leg of the U-14 COE Challenge Cup semi-final was an end-to-end game that had numerous chances for both sides but it was Geylang that broke down the Hougang defence late in the second half to finish-up 3-0 winners.
Missing several players, the Hougang lads had chances but were out-played by the fast Geylang attack. Geylang did not slow down, even after they reached 4-0 but, to their credit Hougang did not give up and defended to the end.
